Google Tag Manager (GTM) is a free tool for analysts, internet marketers, targeting experts, and SEO professionals. With the help of GTM, any scripts and services can be connected to your website without developers, such as smart search Multisearch, Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel and others.

How to start?

Installation of the Multisearch script is very simple and similar to installing the Facebook Pixel code. If you don't already have a Tag Manager account, this quick guide from Google will help you get there. To do this, it is enough to contact the programmers once. Next, you need to install the Multisearch code in GTM. To get the code:

  • leave your contacts in the form and within an hour we will send you the necessary script by mail;

  • or in the form provide a link to the XML / YML feed and get a line of Javascript code.

To quickly connect Multisearch in GTM to your site, you need to create a new tag. Further it is necessary to:

  1. select the tag type - "Custom HTML";

  2. add the copied code to the HTML field;

  3. in the tag activation settings, select "Once per page";

  4. in the Triggers section, select All Pages.

For convenience, in the name of the version, you can specify "Search plugin for the site Multisearch.io". That's all, you can place Multisearch on your website without unnecessary hassle and fuss. Your search is now smart and fast.

GTM: features and structure

If you are planning to use GTM in the future, this guide will be a useful resource.

GTM helps manage tags for tracking and analyzing the behavior of your online store visitors. Thanks to the tag manager, you don't need to make any changes in code, just add the snippet to GTM.

In the manager's hierarchy, the account is located at the highest level. In it you can manage one or several containers.

A container is a piece of JS code that is added to all pages of the site. It stores tags and is responsible for running them. Each resource must have its own container.

A tag is a piece of code that is responsible for performing a specific task:

  • tracking website conversions and traffic sources;

  • bounce rate calculation;

  • button presses;

  • submitting forms;

  • and other.

A trigger is a true or false condition. It is used to activate or block a specific tag. There must be at least one trigger to run a tag. Examples of trigger categories:

  • Page view;

  • click;

  • user interaction;

  • others.

One trigger can be used in different tags.

A variable is a parameter of type name / value, in which the name always remains the same, and the value changes depending on the actions on the site.

GTM doesn't check your settings, so it's easy to get wrong. Using the Tag Assistant extension, you can check if GTM is installed correctly. To avoid mistakes, remember about debug mode. The preview phase detects, localizes and fixes errors. The tag manager is not as scary as it seems at first sight. All you need is patience and a little practice!
